Power outages

While they are restoring power, Duke Energy crews have been looking over outages and inventories. During the outage out-of-town crews are helping from the Carolinas, Indiana. In order to restore power to customers, workers work in a circular fashion. The map of outages is a good source for updates on power restoration. Utility workers are looking into outages throughout the region, so be prepared to be waiting for some time if are experiencing power outages.

Trees falling on homes

While the Piedmont Triad was hit hard by a strong storm Wednesday night, it only sustained minor damage. A huge oak fell into the bedroom of a Raleigh family, causing severe damage. Fortunately, no one was hurt in either of the incidents. Even though the National Weather Service has not confirmed the existence of an occurrence of a tornado in Wake or Johnston counties yet the current situation is market embargo.

Power lines downed

The city was struck by a severe storm that destroyed electric lines as well as damaged a number of trees. According to the National Weather Service, tens of thousands of residents were without power in southern Wake County. A fallen tree took the life of a man in Franklin County. The tree fell onto the victim's 25th birthday and was standing outside his house. Authorities haven't released the name or condition of the victim. The outages were widespread however, the storm only affected the southern region of the city.

Flooding

The largest city in the state is being affected by floods, while Haywood County in North Carolina is suffering a significant power interruption. Duke Energy reported that more than 59.500 customers were without power on the evening of Tuesday. That includes over 2500 customers in Raleigh. More than 5000 of these customers remain without power and more than half live within the Triangle. The storm in North Carolina caused flooding and other damages, making roads and bridges impossible to pass and flooding homes. Roy Cooper, North Carolina's governor declared a state emergency and activated an emergency operation plan. The governor also waived rules for transport.

Contamination

Raleigh is worried about the contaminating effects of storms. Most people are unaware that liquids are being discharged into storm drains. The water they get is affected by this. What goes down the storm drain impacts the quality and health of lakes and streams, as well as the residents and wildlife that use these places to enjoy recreation. In the Raleigh area, two major creeks lead to the Neuse River.
