Air Fryer Herbed Buttermilk Fried Rooster Breasts

The chicken breast with bone and skin, marinated in buttermilk and seasoned with a mixture of herbs and spices on the air fryer, makes for a perfectly juicy chicken.

Air Fryer Herbed Buttermilk Chicken Breast

This air fryer chicken recipe is similar to my whole air fryer chicken recipe, except that it's made with a whole breast instead. Also, it has added herbs and spices. And unlike this air fryer chicken breast recipe, this version is bone-in, and includes the skin. See all of my air fryer recipes here!

Frying the chicken in buttermilk makes it so juicy – the more time in the buttermilk the better! The skin and bones also make the chicken very tender compared to a boneless, skinless breast. I love the skin but you can of course throw it away after cooking which would reduce the calories and ww points to 0. And if you want to make a boneless, skinless breast instead, I would stick with this air fryer chicken breast recipe.

This recipe is from Air Fry Every Day: 75 Recipes for Frying, Frying and Baking with Your Air Fryer: A Cookbook (Affil Link) by Ben Mims. Ben and I share the same publisher. It's fun to see how his air fryer recipes differ from mine in the Skinnytaste Air Fryer Cookbook (Affil Link). This air-fried chicken breast is a simple but delicious protein. You can always double the recipe so you have leftover food the next day. This buttermilk chicken goes great with your favorite salad and also goes well with almost any side such as rice pilaf, corn tomato avocado salad or roasted baby potatoes.

Furnace directions:

If you don't have an air fryer, you can roast the chicken in the oven. Cook the breast at 400 degrees for 35-45 minutes until a thermometer reads 160 degrees. For a whole oven-baked chicken recipe, try my roast chicken with rosemary and lemon.

Is Air Fried Chicken Healthy?

Yes! Air fried chicken is healthy. It uses a lot less oil than traditional fried chicken. The only oil that is needed for frying chicken is a little spray of oil on the chicken breast.
